8HELTER SKELTER Easter Saturday 2003 |
Third year, and again Master of Ceremony Keith Agar masterfully managed the events in his tremendous style. Third John Green Day for him, for us and if you want our opinion - it just keeps getting better and better. It was a fitting tribute once again to the legacy of friendship and generosity of spirit, forged by John Green with many people both within and outside the 'Dylan world'. Through John's friendship the occasion brought all together once again to celebrate our love for the work of Bob Dylan.
The programme front-cover
design (by Phill
Townsend of lazycarrot.com) was available on the t-shirt and, like the gig
was a sell out!
Speakers this year included Andrew Muir - his new book 'Troubadour' just published. CP did his bit too - talking about Folk Roots and Freewheelin' (the album). Then there was the quiz, the too-tempting mall of must-haves (example - the DVD of Eat The Document, complete with booklet only 30 quid!)
Thanks indeed to John Green and Chris Cooper, the organisers - they brought us as well the highly charged music of Cold Overture - and even more brilliant - they got the magickal Carolyn Hester to the gig - and what a surreal performance. She was accompanied by her husband Dave Blume. (He wrote 'Here Comes Summer' - and who was able to say, "1959 - No 1 - Jerry Keller!"? It was Dave Harrison of course!) After Carolyn, the highest highlight yet but how high can the JG Day event go, came the ... Free for all Hootenanny - picture of CP on stage with Cold Overture and John Roberts on spoons says it all. And Trev Gibb's solo spot was staggeringly good - loved by the 3 muses as the picture shows! |
